Overview
Saint Kitts and Nevis is a twin-island federation and independent member of the Commonwealth, with a legal system rooted in English common law and a unique two-tier constitutional structure that grants Nevis significant legislative autonomy. As a member of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC), the Federation offers litigants the stability of a shared regional appellate framework, with final appeals to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in London.
From our Basseterre headquarters, Elliott-Hamilton Law advises domestic and international clients across the full spectrum of commercial practice in the Federation.
Corporate, M&A and financial services. Saint Kitts and Nevis is a well-established international business centre, offering companies, limited liability companies, trusts, and foundations under both federal and Nevis-specific legislation. We advise on formation, cross-border structuring, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory licensing, and ongoing corporate governance and compliance.
Real estate and conveyancing. Property in the Federation is held under the Title by Registration Act, and acquisitions by non-nationals require an Alien Land Holding Licence. We handle freehold and leasehold conveyancing, development transactions, and the associated stamp duty and Inland Revenue processes for both buyers and sellers.
Litigation and dispute resolution. We appear across the ECSC's High Court and Court of Appeal, and act in commercial litigation, insolvency-adjacent disputes, judgment enforcement, and arbitration—including matters involving government counterparties.
Maritime, IP and regulatory work. Our practice extends to shipping and admiralty matters, intellectual property enforcement, and financial services regulation before the relevant Federal and Nevis authorities.
Ranked Band 2 for General Business Law in Chambers Global and a member of the TerraLex network, the firm combines local depth with the cross-border reach expected by international clients and referring counsel. Whether structuring an investment, closing a transaction, or resolving a dispute, we provide precise, primary-source-driven advice grounded in the law of the Federation.
