Overview
Antigua and Barbuda is an independent twin-island Commonwealth state whose legal system is founded on English common law. It forms part of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC), sharing the region's High Court and Court of Appeal framework, with final appeals to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in London.
Elliott-Hamilton Law maintains a staffed office in Antigua and Barbuda, advising domestic and international clients across the full spectrum of our commercial practice.
Corporate, M&A and financial services. Antigua and Barbuda is an established international business centre, offering companies, international entities, and trust structures, and operates a well-known citizenship-by-investment programme. We advise on formation, cross-border structuring, mergers and acquisitions, and ongoing corporate governance.
Real estate and conveyancing. Acquisitions of land by non-nationals require a Non-Citizen Land Holding Licence, and transactions attract stamp duty and related statutory processes. We handle freehold and leasehold conveyancing, development transactions, and the associated licensing on behalf of buyers and sellers.
Litigation and dispute resolution. We appear across the ECSC's High Court and Court of Appeal in Antigua and Barbuda, acting in commercial litigation, appellate matters, insolvency-adjacent disputes, judgment enforcement, and arbitration.
Financial services and regulatory. We advise on licensing, compliance, and engagement with the relevant regulatory authorities, including the Financial Services Regulatory Commission, across the banking, digital assets, and wider financial services sectors.
With a staffed local presence, a Chambers-ranked regional practice, and TerraLex membership, the firm combines on-the-ground depth in Antigua and Barbuda with the cross-border reach expected by international clients and referring counsel. Whether structuring an investment, closing a transaction, or resolving a dispute, we provide precise, primary-source-driven advice grounded in the law of Antigua and Barbuda
